Frequently Asked Questions
-
Recovery is the process of recognizing and transforming self-defeating behaviors that can take many forms throughout our lives. While substance use may be the most obvious, self-defeating behaviors can also be more subtle, sometimes emerging even after years of sobriety. Codependency often lies at the root of addiction and other compulsive behaviors. At its core, recovery is about exploring the feelings of “not enough” that fuel these patterns, developing awareness, and building the tools to create lasting change.
-
Recovery coaching can help clients to overcome obstacles, develop healthy routines, and create a fulfilling life in recovery. It can provide encouragement, accountability, practical support, and guidance while helping clients identify and achieve their personal goals. Unlike sober companionship, recovery coaching is done in sessions, most often remotely.
-
Recovery coaching can benefit individuals in early recovery, those transitioning from treatment, people returning to work or family life, or anyone seeking additional support, accountability, and guidance in maintaining recovery and emotional wellness.
Practical recovery support may also include assistance with recovery monitoring devices.
-
Recovery coaching is solution-focused, action-oriented, and centered in the present. While therapists treat mental health conditions, recovery coaches provide practical support, accountability, motivation, and guidance as clients work toward recovery and wellness goals.
Recovery coaching often offers a greater level of accessibility and real-world support than a traditional weekly therapy model, helping clients navigate challenges as they arise in everyday life.
-
Absolutely. Recovery coaching can complement therapy, outpatient treatment, sober companionship, and other supportive modalities as part of a holistic approach to healing.
-
A sober companion is an ally, a mentor, and engaged in their own recovery. They provide personalized support to individuals navigating early recovery, major life transitions, or situations that may present challenges to maintaining sobriety. This can be accomplished either in the home as a live-in arrangement, or as an off-site support.
Sober Companion services may include safe transport (to or from treatment), or wellness practices, providing support in developing healthy lifestyle habits that complement recovery, including self-care, mindfulness, movement, nutrition, and overall wellness planning. Examples include trauma-conscious yoga, sound therapy, and guided meditation.
-
Sober companion services can be beneficial for individuals who are newly sober, transitioning from treatment, traveling, attending high-risk events, experiencing relapse concerns, or seeking additional accountability and support at any point in their recovery.
-
Support is personalized to each client's unique needs, circumstances, and recovery goals, and may include:
Relapse prevention planning and risk reduction
Daily structure, accountability, and encouragement
Emotional support and practical problem-solving
Assistance navigating work, family, and social situations
Goal setting
Accompaniment to recovery meetings, therapy appointments, or community activities
Safe transportation to or from treatment
Building a healthy, balanced lifestyle that includes self-care, recreation, and fun
Wellness planning, which can include mindfulness practices, movement, nutrition, and stress management
Coordination with treatment providers, families, and other members of the recovery team (when appropriate)
-
The length of service varies based on individual needs and goals. Some clients seek support for a specific event or short-term transition, while others benefit from ongoing companionship and accountability over a longer period of time.
-
Recovery consulting provides personalized guidance to help clients and families navigate the often complex recovery landscape with clarity. Our consulting services help coordinate the many moving parts of a recovery plan, including intervention facilitation, treatment recommendations, referrals, resource navigation, provider communication, appointment coordination, and transition planning. We also assist in identifying appropriate levels of care, developing individualized recovery strategies, advocating for client needs, and connecting clients with trusted community resources. The goal of our recovery consulting service is to simplify the process, reduce stress, and provide ongoing support to the client and family.
-
An intervention is a structured and planned process in which family, friends, and sometimes professionals collaborate to address an individual’s addiction. An intervention may help individuals and families take the first step toward treatment, recovery, and healing.
-
At Many Roads, we employ a transparent, invitation-based methodology for interventions. (Use bold for this) While traditional interventions often rely on secrecy, confrontation, and sudden surprises, we practice a different philosophy. Our model is built entirely on honesty, respect, and mutual consent. By removing the element of surprise, we lower defensiveness, reduce resistance, and preserve family trust when it is needed most.
Healing from substance use and behavioral challenges shouldn't begin with a high-stress ambush. Our collaborative, invitational approach brings families together in absolute transparency, creating a respectful path forward where your loved one is an active participant in their own healing from day one. We guide your family through a gentle, structured progression of care that prioritizes the dignity of everyone involved.
Our Graduated Family Intervention System
We utilize a specialized, multi-phase support system designed to gently but firmly guide individuals into treatment. Unlike traditional surprise interventions, this model is completely transparent and begins with a respectful invitation to heal. If your loved one is not ready to accept help in the first meeting, our structured phases allow the family network to steadily increase support and boundaries until treatment is accepted, ensuring no one is left behind.
-
During the initial phase of intake for an intervention, we speak to the family or loved ones of the client. After discussing the details of your case, you can decide which approach would best fit your situation. We offer an all-in-one fee package or a pay as you go option, fees would depend on what approach you choose to take. Once the details of the case are discussed, we can come up with the right plan for you and your loved one. This will be followed up with an email that will contain a quote for the entire intervention process based upon the specific needs of your case.
-
Yes, interventions can absolutely be facilitated virtually. Since the pandemic, virtual or hybrid interventions have become a standard, highly effective practice in the recovery industry. Because the model you are using relies on open communication and pre-planned meetings rather than a surprise "ambush," it translates perfectly to video conferencing platforms. Virtual intervention facilitation may work best for long-distance families, rapid response, and will allow families to save money on transportation costs.
-
Yes, during our initial conversation we can discuss all the options. Once the details of the case are discussed, we can come up with the right plan for you and your loved one. This will be followed up with an email that will contain a quote for the entire intervention process based upon your specific needs.
-
If your loved one refuses help on the day of the intervention, it is not the end of the road. Because we use a multi-phased model of care rather than a cookie-cutter approach, we pivot our strategy to focus heavily on supporting and empowering the family system.
When navigating a treatment refusal, please keep the following key principles in mind:
Continued Family Support: We continue working directly with the family to shift dynamics, establish healthy boundaries, and model long-term wellness.
Planting Seeds: An intervention is often about planting seeds of recovery that may take time to grow. The conversation frequently breaks through denial and initiates a process of change that unfolds later.
A Mediated Opportunity: The meeting provides a rare, safe space for your family to clearly voice concerns and offer real, structured help without the conversation devolving into conflict.
Independent Billing Policy: The cost and payment for the intervention—whichever fee structure or delivery approach you choose—is entirely independent of whether the client agrees to seek treatment. Our professional fee covers the extensive clinical preparation, strategic planning, family coaching, and the mediation of the intervention itself.
